Bisley Air Cylinders
Essential Gear for PCP Owners
Bisley air cylinders are a great addition to any PCP owner’s kit to keep their airgun filled and ready to use. They come in three different sizes and are crafted from a single piece of steel. The amount of work that goes into making these cylinders can be seen in the video below.
What stands out about these cylinders is their capacity to withstand immense pressure. Despite a metal thickness of only 3.7mm, they can safely handle up to 300 bar. These cylinders can last a lifetime with proper care and a mandatory five-year check at your local diving shop.
Choosing the Right Cylinder Size
When choosing a cylinder size, there are two things to consider: do you have enough space to store a larger bottle, and what price do you want to pay? When you compare the different sizes, there’s quite a variance in the amount of fills and shots.
Here’s a rough guide:
- 3L 300 bottle: Approximately 15 fills, equating to about 1,200 shots.
- 5L 300 bottle: Approximately 30 fills, equating to about 2,000 shots.
- 7L 300 bottle: Approximately 40 fills, equating to about 3,200 shots.
Cylinder vs. Air Pump
Opting for a filling bottle over a stirrup pump offers several benefits. Unless you’re looking for a workout, cylinders are less physically demanding. They provide quicker fills and can be conveniently refilled at your local dive shop, usually for under £5.
Another advantage of using a cylinder is the quality of air. Pumps can introduce moisture or grit into your rifle, potentially causing internal damage. The air from a dive shop will be clean and free from any moisture or contaminants.
However, pumps are lightweight and easier to store without the risk of damaging anything. This is where cylinders lose out to the pumps because a cylinder is A LOT heavier and if it falls and lands on your foot, you’ll know about it! It could even result in a take a trip to A&E. The Bisley 5L and 7L cylinders come with a boot for added stability, but you’ll still need to be careful not to knock one of these over.
Safety First!
Handling high-pressure equipment demands caution. Damaging the valve can turn the cylinder into a dangerous projectile. For a sobering reminder, watch this safety video.
By following these guidelines and maintaining your equipment, you can enjoy the benefits of Bisley air cylinders while ensuring safety and longevity.
